11-88.

Mr. McGee, the owner of The Laundry Shop (from problem 10-95) has a different question that he wants to answer with data and probability. He wants to estimate the probability that a customer who comes into his store will buy a washer or dryer. He collected the following data during one week: customers came to his store, purchased washers, purchased dryers, and did not make a purchase.

  1. Using this data, what is the probability that the next customer who comes to his store will purchase a washer or a dryer?

  2. Mr. McGee promises his salespeople a bonus if they can increase the probability that the customers who buy washers also buy dryers. For the week’s data above, what is the probability that if a customer bought a washer, he or she also bought a dryer?
