1-39.

Janice’s mother gave her a ten dollar bill to buy five pounds each of bananas and apples at the grocery store. When she got there, she found that bananas were per pound and apples were per pound.

Did Janice’s mother give her enough money? If so, should she receive any change? If not, how much more money does she need? Show all of your work.

Remember what you did in problem 1-31? Use those steps to determine how much five pounds of bananas and five pounds of apples cost.

In this problem, you'll need to combine these costs and compare them to what Janice's mother gave her. Once you've done that, you will know whether she has enough money and how much more she needs.

Janice needs more. Make sure that you can explain why.
