Bee is tiling her kitchen floor using square tiles that are foot long on each side. The rectangular floor is feet by feet.

  1. If she has tiles, does she have enough to cover the floor? If not, how many more does she need?

Instead of counting the tiles, use multiplication to find the area (space inside the rectangle) of the floor.

The area is the same as the number of tiles she needs. Does she have enough?

A rectangle divided into 13 rows of 7 squares, left side labeled 13 ft, bottom side labeled 7 ft.

  2. Does she have enough to tile just around the edges of the kitchen? If so, how many leftover tiles will she have? If not, how many more will she need? Draw a picture and show your work.

Be careful not to count the corners twice.
