Solve for $x$ .

$\frac { 2 } { 3 } = \frac { x } { 4 }$
Step 1 (a):
Multiply both sides by a common multiple of the denominators in order to get rid of the fractions.
Step 2 (a):
Divide both sides by $3$ to solve for $x$ .
$8=3x$
Answer (a):
$x = \frac{8}{3}$

$\frac { 2 } { 3 } = \frac { x } { 4 } + \frac { x } { 3 }$
Step 1 (b):
Multiply both sides by a common multiple of the denominators in order to get rid of the fractions.
$8=3x+4x$
Step 2 (b):
Combine like terms.
$8=7x$
Step 3 (b):
Divide both sides by $7$ to solve for $x$ .
Answer (b):
$x=\frac{8}{7}$
