Use the substitution method:
$4y−(−2y−3)=9$
Hint 2(a):
Combine like terms and solve. Then substitute the $y$ value you found into the first equation and solve for $x$ .

$\begin{aligned}[t] x + 5y = 8 \quad\;\; \\ -x + 2y = -1 \end{aligned}$

Hint (b):
Use the elimination method. Solve for $y$ and substitute the value into one of the equations.
Answer (b):
$x=3$ and $y=1$

$\begin{aligned} [t] { 4 x - 2y = 5 } \\ { y = 2x + 10 } \end{aligned}$
