Solve each equation. Be sure to check your answers.

$\sqrt { x } + 2 = x$
Step 1(a):
First isolate the radical by subtracting $2$ from both sides.
$\sqrt{x} = x - 2$
Step 2(a):
Square both sides.
$x=x^2−4x+4$
Step 3(a):
Set the equation equal to $0$ .
$x^2−5x+4=0$
Step 4(a):
Factor.
$(x−4)(x−1)=0$
Answer (a):
$x=4$ ( $x=1$ is extraneous)

$\sqrt { x } + 2 = \sqrt { x + 6 }$
Hint (b):
You will need to square twice.
