This problem is the checkpoint for determining congruent triangles. It will be referred to as Checkpoint 10.

Determine if the left triangle is congruent to the right triangle. If they are congruent, state the congruence condition you used, state a sequence of rigid transformations that maps the left triangle onto the right, and write a triangle congruence statement like . If they are not congruent, state why not.

  1. 2 triangles, H,J,K, & L,M,N, in different orientations, labeled as follows; side H,K, 8, angle K, 70 degrees, side, J,K, 11, side N,L, 11, angle L, 70 degrees, side, L,M, 8.

  1. 2 triangles, A,B,C, & D,E,F, labeled as follows; side A,B, 40, side, B,C, 42, side A,C, 31, side, D,E, 42, side, D,F, 40, side E,F, 31.

  1. 2 triangles, A,B,C, & D,E,F, in different orientations, labeled as follows; side A,B, 1 tick mark, angle B, 1 tick mark, side, B,C, 2 tick marks, side D,E, 1 tick mark, side, E,F, 2 tick marks, angle D, 1 tick mark.

  1. Segments P,S, & Q,T, intersect at R, with segments from P, to Q, & from S, to T, creating 2 triangles, with a common vertex, labeled as follows: Angle P, 2 tick marks, angle Q,R,P, 1 tick mark, side, Q,R, 6, side R,T, 6, angle T,R,S, 1 tick mark, angle S, 2 tick marks.

Check your answers by referring to the Checkpoint 10 materials located at the back of your book.

Ideally, at this point you are comfortable working with these types of problems and can solve them correctly. If you feel that you need more confidence when solving these types of problems, then review the Checkpoint 10 materials and try the practice problems provided. From this point on, you will be expected to do problems like these correctly and with confidence.

Answers and extra practice are located in the back of your printed textbook or in the Reference Tab of your eBook. If you have an eBook for INT1, login and then click the following link: Checkpoint 10: Determining Congruent Triangles
