11-17.

Given the polar point, find its location in the Cartesian coordinate system.

  1. Graph the point.

    Coordinate plane, segment labeled 3, from origin to point labeled a, in second quadrant.

    Create a right triangle with the x-axis.

    Vertical segment added, from point a, to negative x axis, at about negative 2.1, angle between segment from origin to point, & negative x axis, labeled 45 degrees.

    Find the lengths of the legs of the triangle. Use the lengths to determine the coordinates of point (a).

    Labels added, vertical segment y, x axis segment to negative 2.1, x.
