Consider what you know about circles as you answer the questions below.

  1. What do you know about the lengths of the spokes of a bicycle wheel? Draw a picture of a bicycle wheel with spokes and explain what you mean.

    Examine the picture of the bicycle wheel below. If a circle is perfectly symmetrical and the spokes all pass through the center point, how must their lengths compare?

    The spokes are all the same length.

  2. As a bicycle travels on flat ground, how does the center of its wheels (the hub) move? Explain and draw a picture showing what you mean.

    If a wheel is spinning, does the center ever shift in height? How about its horizontal position?
