If you were to cut the figure along the dotted line, can you rearrange the shape to form a rectangle?

  1. A parallelogram, slanted right, with bottom side, labeled 5 meters. A right triangle is created by a line segment of 14 cm, drawn from the top left vertex, to the bottom side, at a 90 degree angle to the bottom.

The area of the parallelogram is equal to the product of its base (5 m) and its height (14 m).

  1. A parallelogram, slanted right, with bottom side, labeled 17 in. A right triangle is created by a line segment of 8 in, drawn from the top left vertex, to the bottom side, at a 90 degree angle to the bottom.

If you rotate the figure in part (b), you will see that the base is in. and the height is in.
