Simplify each of the following expressions.

For parts (a), (b), and (c), find the common denominators of both fractions, then divide the numerators to find the answer.

1. $\frac { 2 } { 3 } \div \frac { 1 } { 12 }$

$\frac{2}{3}=\frac{8}{12}$

$\frac{2}{3}\div\frac{1}{12}=\frac{8}{12}\div\frac{1}{12}=8\div1$

1. $\frac { 5 } { 6 } \div \frac { 5 } { 12 }$

1. $\frac { 2 } { 3 } \cdot 3 \frac { 1 } { 2 }$

For part (d), change the mixed number to a fraction and then multiply.

$\frac{a}{b}\cdot\frac{c}{d}=\frac{a \cdot\ c}{b \cdot\ d}$

1. $5.2 +\frac { 7 } { 10 }$

$\text{If}\ \frac{7}{10}\ \text{ is equal to } 0.7,\\ \text{can you add}\\ \text{the decimals?}$

$5.9,\ \text{or}\ 5\frac{9}{10}$

1. $3\frac { 2 } { 5 }− 2.75$

$3\frac{2}{5} = 3\frac{4}{10} = 3.4$
