 $\text{Volume}=\left(\text{Area of base}\right)\cdot\text{height}$ The right prism shown in the diagram at right has a height of $6$ cm and a triangular base with an area of $48$ sq cm. To calculate its volume, multiply the area of the base times the height of the prism, or $48\ \text{sq cm}\cdot6\ \text{cm}=288\ \text{cu cm}$.
