8-10.

Solve the equations below for the variable. Be sure to check your answer.

1. $3(2x-1)+2=5x$

Distrubute.

$\begin{array}{r} 3(2x)-3(1)+2=5x\\ 6x-3+2=5x \end{array}$

Combine like terms.

$6x-1=5x$

Subtract $5x$ from each side.

$\begin{array}{l} -5x+6x-1=5x-5x\\ \qquad \quad \; \; x-1=0 \end{array}$

Add $1$ to each side.

$x-1+1=0+1+1$

$x=1$

Substitute $1$ back into the original equation to check your answer.

$3\left(2\left(1\right)-1\right)+2=5\left(1\right)$

When you simplify this expression, do you get the same values on each side?

1. $600x+200=500x$

Divide each term by $100$.
