1-19.

Solve each linear equation. Check your solutions.

1. $−2x−3=3$

Add $3$ to both sides.
$−2x−3=3$
$\ \ \ \ \ \ \ +3\ \ +3$
$−2x=6$

Divide both sides by $−2$

$x=−3$

1. $7+2x=4x−3$

Add $3$ to both sides.
$7+2x=4x−3$
$+3\ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ +3$
$10+2x=4x$

Subtract $2x$ from both sides.
$10+2x=4x$
$\ \ \ \ −2x\ \ \ −2x$
$10=2x$

Divide both sides by $2$.

$\large {\frac{10}{2\ }=\frac{2x}{2}}$

$x\ =\ 5$

1. $6x−10=−8+3x$

Refer to part (b).
