1. $-7\frac{5}{6}+(−7\frac{1}{4})$

• Add the integer parts from each term together.

$−7+(−7)=−14$

Use a Giant $1$ to make the denominators of the fractions the same.

$\left(-\frac{5}{6}\right)\frac{2}{2}+\left(-\frac{1}{4}\right)\frac{3}{3}$

Simplify, reduce if possible, and change to a mixed number if needed. Then add the fraction sum to the integer sum.

$-\frac{10}{12}+\left(-\frac{3}{12}\right)=-1\frac{1}{12}$

$-1\frac{1}{12}+(-14)$

$-15\frac{1}{12}$

1. $-8\ \frac{1}{2}-\left(-3\ \frac{1}{4}\right)$

• See help for part (a). Remember that subtracting a negative is the same as adding a positive.

$-5\frac{1}{4}$

1. $\left(-2\ \frac{3}{7}\right)\left(-7\right)$

• Change each number into a fraction greater than $1$.

$\left(-\frac{17}{7}\right)\left(-\frac{7}{1}\right)$

Simplify, reduce if possible, and change into a mixed number if needed.
