1. $3(x−2)=−6$

• Distribute the $3$ over the parentheses.
$3(x)−3(2)=−6$
$3x−6=−6$

Add $6$ to both sides.
$3x−6+6=−6+6$
$3x=0$
Divide both sides by $3$.
$3x\div3=0\div3$

$x=0$

1. $2(x+1)+3=3(x−1)$

• Simplify both sides.
$2x+2+3=3x−3$
$2x+5=3x−3$

Add $3$ to both sides leave only one constant.
$2x+5+3=3x−3+3$
$2x+8=3x$
Then take $2x$ from both sides to isolate $x.$
$2x+8−2x=3x−2x$

$x=8$

1. $(x+2)(x+3)=(x+1)(x+5)$

• Start by using generic rectangles to rewrite both sides without parentheses. Then solve using the same method as (b).
