Use what you have learned about exponents to rewrite each of the expressions below.

1. $\frac { h ^ { 11 } } { h ^ { 9 } }$

• Think about making ones and where any left over factors would remain.

$\frac{h^{11}}{h^{9}}=\frac{h^{9}\cdot h^{2}}{h^{9}}$

$=1\cdot h^{2}$

$=h^{2}$

1. $x ^ { 3 } \cdot x ^ { 4 }$

• How many factors of $x$ are multiplied together?

$x^7$

1. $( 3 k ^ { 5 } ) ^ { 2 }$

• Multiply $3k^5$ by itself and then follow the pattern from part (b).

$3k^5\cdot3k^5 = 9k^{10}$

1. $n ^ { 7 } \cdot n$

• Refer to part (b).

1. $\frac { 16 x ^ { 4 } y ^ { 3 } } { 2 x ^ { 4 } }$

• $\frac{16y^3}{2} = 8y^3$

1. $4 x y ^ { 3 } \cdot 7 x ^ { 2 } y ^ { 3 }$
