Mr. Greer solved an equation below. However, when he checked his solution, it did not make the original equation true. Find his error and then find the correct solution.

$\begin{aligned}[t] 4x &= 8\left(2x - 3\right) \\ 4x &= 16x - 3 \\ -12x &= -3 \\ x &= \frac{-3}{-12} \\ x &= \frac{1}{4} \end{aligned}$
