Simplify each expression.

1. $-32+|10+2|$

Treat the absolute value signs like parentheses.
Complete the operations inside first, and then make the simplified term positive.

$-32+\mid10+2\mid=-32+\mid12\mid=-32+12$

Then add the two terms.

$-20$

1. $17\frac{1}{3}+\left(-50\frac{1}{3}\right)-5\frac{1}{2}$

Simplify this one as you would any expression like it.

Add the first two terms together first to eliminate the fractions. Then subtract the third term.

$-38\frac{1}{2}$

1. $-5.37+8.14-1.89$
