For the entire rectangle at right, find the area of each part and then find the area of the whole.
First, find the area of each individual box.
Generic rectangle | top edge left | top edge right |
left edge top | interior top left | interior top right |
left edge bottom | interior bottom left | interior bottom right |
Add all of the areas together to get the entire area of the rectangle.
