1-4.

"Find $f\left(3\right)$" means to find the output of function $f\left(x\right)$ for an input of $x=3$. For the function $f\left(x\right)=\frac{1}{x-2}$ , find each of the following values. Homework Help ✎

1. Find $f\left(4\right)$. (This means find the output of the function when $x=4$.)

Substitute $4$ for each $x$.

$f(4)=\frac{1}{4-2}$

Simplify.

$f(4)=\frac{1}{2}$

2. Find $x$ when $f(x)=1$. (This means find the input that gives an output of $1$.)

Substitute $1$ for $f(x)$.

$1=\frac{1}{x-2}$

Solve for $x$ (multiply both sides by $x−2$).

$x=3$
