3-45.

Rewrite each equation below. Then solve your new equation. Be sure to check your solution using the original equation. Homework Help ✎

1. $(n+4)+n(n+2)+n=0$

Distribute the $n$.

Combine like terms, then factor the equation.

Use the Zero Product Property.

$(n+4)+n(n+2)+n=0$
$n+4+n^2+2n+n=0$

$n^2+4n+4=0$
$(n+2)(n+2)=0$

$n+2=0$

$n=−2$

2. $\frac{4}{x}=x+3$

Start by multiplying both sides by $x$. Then rewrite and use the Zero Product Property.

$x=−4\ \text{or}\ 1$
