Find the volume and surface area of a box with dimensions of $5\frac{1}{2}$ cm by $4\frac{1}{3}$ cm by $1\frac{1}{4}$ cm.

Drawing the box may help you picture it.

The volume of a box is (area of base) (height), or in this case (length) (width) (height).

The surface area of a box is the sum of the areas of its individual faces.

Remember to multiply mixed numbers, you must first convert them to fractions greater than one.

$\text{Surface Area}\ =\ 72\frac{1}{4}\;\text{cm}^2$
