As you can tell from the examples of the number lines below, not all number lines change by one unit from mark to mark. Copy these number lines onto your paper and fill in the missing numbers.

  1. A number line with 7 marks, the first 4 are labeled as follows, from left to right: negative 6, negative 4, negative 2, 0.

    Find the difference between two marks on the number line.

    Negative 6 and negative 4, on the number line, are highlighted.

    The numbers grow by units. Copy the number line on your paper and label the other marks.

    The last 3 marks have these labels added: 2, 4, 6.

  1. A number line with 8 marks, the first 2 are labeled negative 15, and negative 10, the last mark is labeled, 20.

    Find the difference between two marks on the number line.

    Negative 15 and negative 10, on the number line, are highlighted.

    The numbers grow by units. Copy the number line on your paper and label the other marks.

    Labels are added, starting with the third mark, as follows: negative 5, 0, 5, 10, and 15.

  1. A number line with 7 marks, labeled as follows: second is negative 7, third is 0, sixth is 21.
