Here are the lengths (in inches) of snakes in a reptile display at the zoo: . Find the mean and median of the lengths.

The first thing to do is to count the number of snakes. A quick count shows that there are . The numbers are already ordered from smallest to largest.

To find the mean, you add all of the numbers together, and then divide the sum by the amount of numbers you added together.

To find the median, you put the numbers in order, which has already been done for you, and take the one in the middle. Because you have an even number of numbers, , you must take the middle two, and , add them together, and divide the sum by two.
