Approximately out of every Americans live in California. About out of every Americans live in New York, and about out of every Americans live in Texas.  

  1. Which state has the largest population?

  2. Which state has the smallest population?

    Compare the state populations by writing each state's population as a fraction of the population of the entire United States. Remember to convert all of the fractions to equivalent fractions with a common denominator.

  3. About what percentage of Americans do not live in California, New York, or Texas?

    Add up each state's population fraction to get the fraction of Americans who live in California, New York, or Texas.

    What would the remainder represent? Remember to convert from a fractions to a percentage for the answer.
