Christina collected information about the ages of the players on her softball team. The ages were , , , , , , , , , , , and . Christina wants to describe the players’ ages in an article for the school newspaper. She does not want to list all of the ages, so should she use the range (difference between the highest and lowest values) or a measure of central tendency (mean, median) to describe them? Justify your choice.  

Think about the distribution in ages. Are there many more of one age than another? Are there any unusually old or young players?

Remember that since the range tells you how far the data is spread, it does not represent the actual ages.
