6-17.

Write an algebraic expression for each mat below. Then use the legal moves that you have developed to simplify each mat. If possible, decide which expression is greater.  

Shaded tile is plus 1.  Tile is negative 1.

  1. Expression Comparison Mat, with tiles as follows: Mat A, 4 positive x's, 2 negative x's, 2 positive units, and 1 negative unit. Mat B, 4 positive x's, 2 negative x's, 6 positive units, and 4 negative units.

  1. Expression Comparison Mat, with tiles as follows: Mat A, 5 positive x's, 2 negative x's, 3 positive units, and 1 negative unit. Mat B, 5 positive x's, 2 negative x's, 6 positive units, and 4 negative units.
