9-88.

Find the volume of a -unit-high layer of each prism below. Then find the total volume and the surface area of each figure.

  1. A rectangular prism

A 3 dimensional box, front, right and top sides visible, labeled as follows: front bottom, 50 m, right bottom, 10 m, right back, 10 m.

Consider the prism's volume in terms of multiple layers that are each one unit high and stacked depending on the height.

Solve for the volume of the prism if it had only a -unit-high layer and then for the actual respective number of layers based on the height.

A blue layer, 1 meter high, is drawn on the bottom layer of the box.

    Volume ( unit layer):
    Volume (Total):

  1. A triangle-based prism

3 dimensional diagram, showing left, front, and top sides. Top is a right triangle, with hypotenuse, which is back edge, labeled 12.7 cm. Other labels as follows: left bottom, 9 cm, right bottom, 9 cm, right back, 8 cm.

    See part (a).

A blue layer, 1 meter high, is drawn on the bottom layer of the prism.
