    1. 10 − 2(2x + 1) = 4(x − 2)

    2. 5 − (2x − 3) = −8 + 2x

One way to start is by multiplying.

Simplify by adding 4x to each side.

Simplify again by adding 8 to both sides.

Divide both sides by 8.

10 − 4x − 2 = 4x − 8

8 = 8x − 8

16 = 8x

x = 2

Remember to distribute the negative.

x = 4
