Find the slope of the line through the points (6, −8) and (3, −4).

  1. Find the equation of the line through (6, −8) and (3, −4).

Use the slope you calculated and one of the given points in the equation y = mx + b to solve for b.

  2. Is the point (−3, 4) on the line you found in part (a)? How can you tell?

  • Substitute −3 for x and 4 for y into your equation.
Another way to solve the problem is to graph the points.
