5-27.

Write the inverse equation for each of the following equations. Homework Help ✎

1. y = 3x − 8

2. $y = \frac { 1 } { 2 } x + 6$

3. $y = \frac { x + 6 } { 2 }$

Interchange x and y. Then solve your inverse (new) equation for y.

$x = 3y-8$

$x+8=3y$

$\frac{x + 8}{3} = y \text{ or}$

$y = \frac{1}{3}(x+8) \text{ or}$

$y = \frac{1}{3}x + \frac{8}{3}$

y = 2(x − 6)

or y = 2x − 12

y = 2x − 6
