Solve each equation below for $x$. Check your solution.

1. $3x - 7(4 + 2x) = -x + 2$

Use the Distributive Property to simplify the left side of the equation. Note that there is a '$−$' sign in front of the $7$. Then, isolate the variable on one side of the equation and solve for $x$.

1. $-5x + 2 - x + 1 = 0$
