When the shapes below are reflected across the given line of reflection, the original shape and the image (reflection) create a new shape. For each reflection below, name the new shape that is created.  

  1. The left side of a heart with the line of reflection on the right side.

    heart

  1. A rectangle: top edge: 3, left edge: 6, bottom edge 3.  The line of reflection is on the right side.

    square

  1. An isosceles trapezoid where the line of reflection is the bottom base.

    hexagon

  1. Use this method to create your own shape that has reflection symmetry. Add additional lines of symmetry. Note that the dashed lines of reflection in the figures above become lines of symmetry in the new shape.

    Think of a shape that is the same when you fold it in half.
