2-86.

A rectangle 17 inches by 8 inches. The rectangle has three internal triangles where one of the bases is the entire 8 inch side and the height is 17 inches.  The other two triangles make up the rest of the rectangle and are shaded.Calculate the area of the shaded region at right. Use the appropriate units.  

How does the unshaded area compare with the shaded area?
Use the equation for the area of a triangle to find the light triangle's area and subtract it from the entire area.
