In order for his tablecloth to drape over each edge, he will add a rectangular piece along each side of the regular hexagon as shown in the diagram at right. Using the dimensions given in the diagram, find the total area of the cloth Mr. Singer will need.
Divide the hexagon into triangles. Find the lengths of the sides and height.
Find the area of one triangle, then use this to find the total area of the hexagon.
Find the area of one rectangle, then use this to find the total area of all of the rectangles.
Find the sum of the two areas.
