Remember that the absolute value of a number is its positive value. For example, $|-5|=5$ and $|5|=5$. Use this understanding to solve the equations below, if possible. If there is no solution, explain how you know.

1. $| x | = 6$

$x=6$ or $−6$

1. $| x | = - 2$

No solution. An absolute value cannot be negative.

1. $| x + 7 | = 10$

$x=3$ or $−17$
