If $y = \large\frac { x } { x + 1 }$ , approximate the area under the curve for $0 ≤ x ≤ 4$ using eight left endpoint rectangles of equal width.

Hint:

Area of each rectangle $= bh$ .
All rectangles have a base of $0.5$ . Heights are determined by the function. (Notice that the first rectangle has a height of $0$ .)
