Consider the graph of $f ( x ) = 2 e ^ { - ( x - 1 ) ^ { 2 } }$ over the interval $[–2, 2]$. Which point on the curve is farthest from the origin?

Any point on the function is $\left(x, f\left(x\right)\right)$. Therefore the distance from the origin is:

$d=\sqrt{x^2+(f(x))^2}$

$d=\sqrt{x^2+(2e^{-(x-1)^2})^2}$
