For each function below, solve for $x$.

1. $y = -10x + 8$

Subtract $8$ from both sides.

Divide both sides by $–10$.

$x=\frac{y-8}{-10}$

1. $y = (x + 4)^2$

Do not forget the $±$ when taking the square root of both sides.

1. $y = x^3 + 2$

You will need to take the cube root to undo the cube. But, get $x^3$ by itself first.

1. $y=3\sin(x)$

To undo the sine function, you will need to use the inverse sine function.

1. Assuming that no domains are restricted, which of the functions above has an inverse that is also a function? Give a reason for your answer.

Think about the graph of each $x =$ equation. Will it pass the vertical line test?
