The length of a side of a square is 5x + 2 units. Assuming the perimeter is 48 units, complete the following problems. Homework Help ✎

  1. Write an equation to represent this information.

    To find the perimeter, add the side lengths. In this case we have a square which has four equal side lengths.

    One possibility is 4(5x + 2) = 48.

  2. Solve for x.

    x = 2

  3. What is the area of the square?

  • Remember to substitute x = 2 back into the original equation.
