10-67.

An environmental engineering group has collected core samples from the earth to determine if they are contaminated. The samples were weighed in kilograms, as follows:

Try finding the mean and standard deviation as well as median and IQR.
If it helps, make a combination histogram and boxplot.

There are no outliers.
Should you use the mean or the median to describe the center of the data if there are no outliers?

 $15$  $40$  $69$  $65$  $10$ $60$  $34$  $20$  $43$  $40$ $10$  $25$  $44$ $65$  $32$  $45$  $30$  $36$ $45$  $50$  $35$  $39$  $50$ $46$  $55$  $31$ checksum $1034$

Determine if the mean and standard deviation is an appropriate way to summarize this data. If so, compute the mean and standard deviation using your calculator. If not, use the median and IQR. Consider the precision of the measurement of weight when deciding how many decimal places to use in your answer.
