For each expression below, write a simpler, equivalent expression using only positive exponents.

1. $(3x^2y)(5x)$

• When multiplying like terms, add the exponents.

$15x^3y$

1. $( x ^ { 2 } y ^ { 3 } ) ( x ^ { - 2 } y ^ { - 2 } )$

• Follow the steps in part (a).

1. $\frac { x ^ { 3 } } { x ^ { - 2 } }$

• When dividing like terms, subtract the exponents.

1. $( 2 x ^ { - 1 } ) ^ { 3 }$

• Write the expression three times and then follow the steps in part (a).
