6-51.

Solve each of the following equations for the indicated variable. Show all of your steps.

1. $y=2x-5$ for $x$

Isolate the variable $x$ on one side.

$y=2x-5$
$+5 +5$
$y + 5 = 2x$

$\frac{y+5}{2}=x$

1. $p=-aw+9$ for $w$

Isolate the variable by subtracting $9$ from both sides.

Since you are solving for $w$, you should divide both sides by $-a$.

1. $2m-6=4n+4$ for $m$

Follow the steps in part (a).

$m = 2n +5$

1. $bx-y=-2y$ for $y$

$−bx = y$
