Plot the points $A\left(5, 3\right)$, $B\left(−4, 3\right)$, $C\left(−4, −6\right)$, and $D\left(5, −6\right)$ on a set of axes. Connect the points in order. Then connect D to A to form a quadrilateral (a polygon with four sides).

1. What kind of quadrilateral was formed?

Are there any congruent sides or angles?

2. How long is each side of the quadrilateral?

Count the number of boxes from side to side.

3. What is the area of the quadrilateral?

$\text{Area} = \text{base } x \text{ height.}$

4. What is the perimeter of the quadrilateral?

Perimeter = sum of the side lengths.
