12-94.

Garland is having trouble with the copy machine.  He is trying to copy a triangle with an area of $36$ square units and a perimeter of $42$ units.

1. After he presses the button to copy, Garland notices the copier’s zoom factor (the linear scale factor) is set to $200\%$.  What are the area and perimeter of the resulting triangle?

The area increases by a factor of $2^2$.

$P = 84\text{ units}$

2. Now Garland takes the result from part (a) and accidentally shrinks it by a linear scale factor of $\frac { 1 } { 3 }!$  What are the area and perimeter of the resulting triangle?

Divide the perimeter of part (a) by $3$.
