2-20.

One goal of this course will be to review and enhance your algebra skills. Solve for $x$ in each equation below, show and justify all steps leading to your solution, and check your answer.

1. $34x - 80 = 10x - 8$

$34x - 80 = 10x - 8$
$-10x = -10x$ Subtract $10x$ from both sides
$24x - 80 = -8$

$24x − 80 = −8$
$+80 = +80$ Add $80$ to both sides
$24x = 72$

$24x = 72$ (Divide both sides by $24$.)

$x=\frac{72}{24} = \frac{9}{3} = 3$

1. $4x - 5 = 4x + 10$

No solution.

1. $3(x - 5) + 2(3x + 1) = 41$

$3x − 15 + 6x + 2 = 41$

1. $-2(x + 4) + 6 = -3$

Remember to combine only like terms.
