Copy and complete each of the Diamond Problems below. The pattern used in the Diamond Problems is shown at right.

Generic Diamond Problem. One number, X, is located on the left side. The second number, Y, is located on the right side.  The bottom number is the sum of the two numbers, X and Y. The top number is the product of the two numbers, X and Y.

  1. Diamond Problem. Left 9, Right negative 9, Top blank,  Bottom blank

Remember, when multiplying a negative and a positive number the product is always negative.

  1. Diamond Problem. Left blank, Right blank, Top negative 36,  Bottom 0

  1. Diamond Problem. Left 4, Right blank, Top negative 20,  Bottom blank

Subtract the value on the right from the value on the bottom to find the left value.
