Solve these equations. Each time, be sure you have found all possible solutions. Check your work and write down the name of the method(s) you used.

1. $| 4 x + 20 | = 8$

$4x + 20 = 8$
$4x + 20 = -8$

$x = -3$ or $–7$

1. $(x - 13)^3 = 8$

Take the cube root of both sides.
$x - 13 = 2$

1. $2 \sqrt { x - 4 } = 14$

$x = 53$

1. $6 | x - 8 | - 4 = 14$

Get the absolute value expression by itself first. Then solve this problem like you did in part (a).

1. $3(x + 12)^2 = 27$

Divide both sides by $3$ and then take the square root of both sides.

1. $6^4 = 36^x$

$6^4=(6^2)^x$
