Rewrite each expression using the laws of exponents.

1. $(x^2)(x^2y^3)$

Think of this as $(xx)(xxyyy)$.

$(x^2 · x^2)(y^3) = x^4y^3$

1. $\frac { x ^ { 3 } y ^ { 4 } } { x ^ { 2 } y ^ { 3 } }$

Think of the numerator as $xxxyyyy$. Write out the denominator in the same way. Then factor out all of the $1\text{s}$.

$xy$

1. $(2x^2)(−3x^4)$

$(2 · −3)(x^2 · x^4)$

1. $(2x)^3$

Write $2x$ three times and follow the pattern from part (a).
